why does my dog take food from his bowl and set it on the ground without eating it?

before he starts pigging out he delicately picks up a few kibbles and walks a few feet away and sets them down. he does it 2 or 3 times, leaves them there, then returns to his bowl to eat. it drives me crazy and i can't think of why he'd do it.

Although dogs have been domesticated for thousands of years you need to remember this: all dogs were bred from "wild" dogs.

Even though it might seem silly that your dog takes his food from his dish, this is actually his instinct kicking in. He may be trying to hide it for later or from "predators".

Its best to think that its adorable and not to let it bother you.
