How Many Boxes of Cake for a Wilton Cake Pan?
I bought a star Shaped Cake pan, and the directions say to use a 2-layer cake mix. Does that mean to use 2 boxes of cake mix? I've never made a cake before...

As for the rude person- I'm old enough to have a child, you moron. I've just never made a cake.
A regular sized cake mix will make a 2 layer cake. However, when making a cake to decorate, I would use 1 1/2 boxes of mix, because you will cut the rise off of the cake before you decorate it. By using extra mix, you will still have a nice thick cake.
**If the recipe calls for 3 eggs per mix, use 5 eggs. By adding an extra egg to the mix, it will keep your cake from crumbling.
**Before you put the star pan into the oven, I would recommend spinning the pan, so that the edges of the cake are higher that the center. In this manner, as the cake rises, it will not have a huge hump in the center that will need to cut off to decorate a flat surface.
**If you drop the pan on the counter a few times before you bake it, all of the air bubbles will come to the top of the mix. This will eliminate the air tunnels in your cake.
**Bake the cake at 325 degrees instead of 350 degrees. The cake will take a little longer to bake, however, it will not rise as much and there will be less to cut off.
I have been baking and selling decorated cakes and wedding cakes for years.
