Ceramic Water Filter – An Inexpensive Way To Filter Water
Ceramic water filter (CWF) in not new way of filtering water. In ceramic water filter the ceramic material is used to filter water from dirt, dust and bacteria and mostly Diatomaceous Earth, a fossil substance is the core of the ceramic filter. Filter with the pore size of .01 micron to .45 micron is considered bacteriologically sterile and one with pore size of .45 micron to 1.0 micron is bacteriologically safe.
To filter water, the water is first contained in the container then it passes through the filter,leaving behind any particulate or molecule with larger size than the water molecule.
Ceramic water filter with silver is more efficient as they are capable of killing or incapacitating bacteria that a normal ceramic filter cannot. Also with silver, algae and mold cannot grow on the body of the filter.

In every kind of this filter there is one top of ceramic pot and a container for water below, which is fitted with a tap. Water is poured into ceramic top and from there the water passes through the minuscule holes of the ceramic leaving behind the contaminants. These contaminants are then cleaned with brush and water. Candle type ceramic filter has the additional active carbon to absorb chlorine. This type of filter needs regular replacement as clogging occurs on carbon leading to its inefficiency.
Also you can get the portable ceramic filters like MSR Miniworks and and in-line ceramic filters. The former needs manual pumping to work.
Although you can remove particulate by using the ceramic water filter but if you talk about chemicals then these water filters are not meant to do this. With the high-performing activated carbon core the performance of the filter reduce metallic and organic contaminants can be increased but to remove them completely there are other option like reverse osmosis water filter that is very efficient in removing these.
Ceramic material is very brittle so any harsh handling can lead to hairline cracks that reduces the efficiency.

Cast Iron pots and pans on a ceramic top stove?
thinking of buying a new ceramic top stove and was told that cast iron could not be used on them unless you had some kind of special Burner Cover on it ,does anyone know what that is or where i can buy them,please cant live with out my cast Iron Cookware.
