(or French Ovens as Le Creuset calls them) have been crafted by Le Creuset (pronounced "Luh Cruhzay") since 1925 in Northern France. They are known for their superior quality, durability, and versatility and are considered a "must have" in a well armed kitchen.
These dutch ovens are produced with heavy cast-iron, which is unparalleled for its heat distribution and retention. This allows food to be cooked evenly and gently free of hot spots at low temperatures and is suitable for all heat sources. The long-lasting exterior enamel resists chipping and cracking and a durable, nonreactive sand-colored interior enamel provides a smooth surface for cooking.
Most often seen on cooking shows used for braising and deep frying, the Le Creuset Dutch Oven can also be used for poaching, oven roasting and making stews, soups and sauces as well as cooking beef roasts, every cut of pork available, whole and cut-up chicken, just about any kind of meat you can think of.

Le Creuset provides a 101 year warranty on their Cast Iron products. These dutch ovens have been made for a long time and are often considered heirloom pieces which are handed down to the next generation.
Each dutch oven is cast in a one of a kind sand mold that is only used once. Each dutch oven is also hand finished, meaning an actual person sands, cleans, paints, inspects, etc each dutch oven. If a dutch oven is found to be defective, it is melted down again and recycled as a new one.
Le Creuset Dutch Ovens have loop shaped handles that provide a sturdy gripping surface, which is necessary due to the weight of cast iron. They also have high sides, making them great for frying. The height reduces the amount of grease splatters.
The colored enamel has two benefits; 1 – Unlike most cast Iron Cookware, Le Creuset's enamel eliminates the need to season the cooking surface; 2 – They come in classic and trend setting colors making them appealing enough to use as a Serving Dish as well (be careful of the heat though!)
Le Creuset's Dutch Ovens come in a variety of sizes (most commonly 5.5 qt, 7.25 qt and 9 qt) and sizes (most commonly round and oval). This allows you to opt for a good size for your most usual cooking scenarios.
Criticisms
Cast iron takes longer to heat up when compared to Stainless Steel or aluminum. You should take this in to account when organizing a meal to finish cooking all all at once. Precisely how much longer is tough to say, each and every person's experience will vary.
