Problems Encountered with Window Air Conditioners
Although it is quite a serious investment to install an air conditioner, many of us just plug in the device and forget about any sort of maintenance, until our window air conditioner stops providing the service we have gotten used to. This is the last thing that you should do. Neglecting your air conditioner's maintenance would not only mean that the efficiency levels would drop but you might also be faced with stiff repair costs. However, if you just follow a few proper maintenance guidelines provided in the instruction manual, you can avoid a lot of problems.
What we do in the following part of the article is to provide you with a basic plan on how to take proper care of your air conditioner so that it can perform at its peak and also a few troubleshooting tips when you have to deal with unforeseen problems.
The first idea is to prevent your unit before it starts showing up problems. Since all air conditioners use filters, it is of primary importance to maintain the filter as without the filter in a proper condition no unit will be able enough to perform. So if you need efficiency from your air conditioner you must have the filter clean. It is best to clean them once every month.
Also be sure that the condenser coils of the air conditioner are clean and not covered by dust and dirt. Sometimes dust and grime can hide at places where it is not visible to the naked eye. It is best to vacuum the coils with a crevice tool so that you can reach all the nooks and the corners.
Problems, however, might still crop up and you have to deal with them. Sometimes you'll notice a musty smell coming out of your air conditioner. This may be because of the moisture dust and dirt which leads to the formation of mold and mildew in the dip tray. All you got to do is to remove the dip tray and wash it with soap and water. It is best to do this once every year which would ensure that you never get this smell.
If you find some water leaking from the window air conditioner it might well be the interior moisture. It may be because your unit is tilted inwards, though it actually should be tilted outward. This hampers the drainage. Just get the unit installed properly and you will no longer encounter the problem.

My son is about to turn 6 years old and i need finger food ideas for 12-18 people. PLEASE HELP!!!!?
We are having a birthday party for our son at the end of the month and we are having about 12-18 possibly more family and friends over for the party. We just bought a new house so everyone wants to see it and this seemed the easiest route to go with it. I have done parties for him in the past, but usually with little kids and then you just pump them full of sugar and send them home....but this time it will be more adults then kids. I am planning on doing a veggie tray with ranch dip, sausage balls, and fruit skewers....any more ideas. PLEASE HELP!!!
Firstly congratulations on the new house!
Seeing as it's a double event I would probably recommend quite an up-beat menu but you can always add the old staples like sausage rolls, sandwiches or subs, vole-au-vents filled with cream cheese and mushrooms or prawns etc...
For a slightly posher party I'd recommend the following:
I always love crudités and dips, I love putting the dips in hollowed out peppers which look really fab (try to keep the tops of the peppers to use as lids)
I would also put out a bowl of kettle chips as lots of people like these too.
Chicken satays with peanut dip goes down a treat (unless anyone is allergic!) I've found that most of my nieces and nephews love these too so they'd be good for most ages.
A bowl of mixed nuts looks nice and is easy to pick at (you can use either plain, honey roasted, dry roasted etc depending on your family's particular tastes) You could also have mixed seeds and dried fruits.
For the older guests maybe a nice selection of cheeses and biscuits (with some grapes or celery too)
If you wanted to have enough finger food for people to have a proper meal then the following might be good ideas too:
A Cold Meat platter which you can either prepare yourself or ask your local supermarket to provide
Slices of pies or quiches
A selection of fruits with dipping sauces such as raspberry or strawberry coulis, a sweet flavoured crème fraiche (vanilla and a little icing sugar works well) maybe melted chocolate on a warming tray (or a chocolate fountain if you're feeling extravagant!)
Green Salad, rice salad, pasta salad, home made coleslaw and/or potato salad.
Buy par-baked bread rolls and finish them off in the oven just as the guests are arriving – you could also cut some of them into slices and add garlic butter before you cook them.
And of course, the obligatory Birthday Cake!!
If you are adding things to platters then I always like to put a little decoration on them , for example on the meat platter I would put some nice lettuce leaves (rocket or a ‘prettier’ lettuce) and maybe some twisted slices of cucumber, on the fruit platter I would add some fresh figs (You can cut them in four about halfway down the length and then squeeze the bottom of them and they make a really nice shape)
