Make your own Candles.
For thousands of years candle making has been a hot topic. Candles were once a requirement due to the lack of electricity and the need to have light at night. Now, it is a hobby that many people around the world enjoy. Candle making still is a popular hobby for a many reasons. You can make candles for their own personal use, or for a craft project, people give candles as gifts, and some people even make a very nice profit from selling their candle creations.
Giving Candles as Gifts.
Giving candles as gifts is extremely pleasurable. It's fairly easy too. Many moons ago you could not pop out of you house and buy the wonderful candle products from the local craft stores like you can today. It was all Hand Made and rough at the seams.
Craft Shop.
Today craft shops supply all tools for the trade that you would ever need. This gives you the opportunity to make gorgeous and professional looking candles like you are a professional candle maker. There are many types of product you can buy including; wax, wicks, gels and molds for a price that suits most pockets. With the popularity of this hobby we also have decorations, colour and fragrances pre-packed especially for homemade candle makers.
Making Candles
The first thing you need to do to start making your candles is to prepare the wax. The wax can be melted in a large pot and in some instances in a microwave. You can use a double boiler. A double boiler is a large pot that you fill with water and it has a smaller pot inside to melt the wax in, hence the name. The wax may burn if you melt it using a single pot. When melted, place the wick in the middle of the mold or jar and pour in the wax so that it completely comes to the top of the mold. Before you attempt to remove it from the mold, the wax will need to cool from anywhere between two to four hours. Some people put their masterpiece into the freezer for about 15 minutes to half an hour. It is supposed to make it easy to remove.

With the different and unusual fragrances on sale now and colourful decorations, you are given an open check to make your projects as well as they can possibly be. Candle making is a wonderful hobby and wonderful business. Selling candles can be profitable. Could you turn it into a moneymaking hobby? Could you really love candle making? The smell of the wax, the look on your friends face when you give them a beautiful hand made creation of yours. The only limit on your candle creativity is your imagination. what can i use as a double boiler?
i used a Glass Bowl and a Sauce Pan as a double boiler and halfway through the process, the bowl cracked. what's a good bowl to use instead of glass? would plastic (like tupperware) or ceramic work? or is glass ok and i'm just doing it wrong?
You can use 2 pots, with one inside the other. This would be easier to do than using a pot and a bowl as the 2cd pot would have a handle. Try to keep the upper pot out of the water in the first pot. The upper pot is supposed to be warmed by the steam from the bottom pot.
