How tall must a stove pipe above a free-standing fireplace be before it can make a 45 degree angle?
I have a "Majestic" brand free-standing fireplace I am restoring in a house built in 1950. The fireplace was made in 1958. I have to use an elbow joint to bypass a rafter. How tall must the pipe be from the top of the fireplace (an Eames era conical beauty) before the elbow is connected? I do not want my house to burn down regardless of the beauty of the fireplace. Any suggestions?
Contact the building inspector or a local contractor about any building codes that apply. From a safety standpoint, I seriously doubt it matters, as long as the installation is done correctly.
