Nortel CVAS Boosts Service Provider Revenue Potential and Subscriber Stickiness by Delivering More Personalized Communications to Consumers
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS--(Marketwire - Oct. 21, 2009) - Service providers around the world can improve their competitive advantage and provide more personalized and unified communications across any network or device thanks to the latest consumer voice and multimedia solutions provided by Nortel(1) (OTCBB:NRTLQ) Carrier VoIP and Application Solutions (CVAS). These innovative CVAS solutions will be demonstrated at Nortel's Supercomm booth (#2120) in Chicago this week.
Nortel's IP Powered Home consumer voice and multimedia solution equips service providers to compete more effectively and significantly improve the way people communicate by providing advanced SIP features such as personalized call routing, call screening and fixed-mobile convergence integrated into carrier subscriber portals. These features help boost service provider's ability to compete and are backed by Nortel's strength in providing industry-leading carrier-grade reliability to more than 350 service providers across the globe.

Nortel's consumer solution allow subscribers to be contacted via one number for all of their phones and devices without having to change their phone number or ask their friends and family to update their address books. Subscribers can also program their devices to identify callers by setting unique ring tones and "announce" the incoming caller by specifying which phone should ring based on the caller and their location. For example, if the subscriber is at home when the call comes in, they can program the network to ring the landline instead of the mobile device, which allows the user to offload mobile minutes to their landline.

Nortel's recent research conducted by Harris Interactive found that consumers want to access their communications from any device and location and that they're hungry for more advanced SIP features like PC-based call control and WiFi to cellular handoff. Nortel's IP Powered Home consumer voice and multimedia solution at Supercomm meet these subscriber demands and include:
- Personal web Communications: conveniently personalize communications features on the service provider's secure portal.
- Call grabber between devices and mobile extension: transform mobile phones into extensions of home-based landline by allowing calls to be grabbed between networks and devices.
- TV communications: extend personalized consumer communication capabilities to the TV and allows users to control, manage and place calls, view call logs and send and receive Instant Messages from their TV using the remote control.
- Smartphone based Consumer Communications: multimedia clients for iPhone and Blackberry. Access Unified Communications services such as VoIP, IM, and presence capabilities on the road. Coupled with secure Federated IM, this enables users to receive and reply to IMs from Yahoo, AOL, MSN or Google buddies wherever they are.
- Advanced security and privacy: easily defined call management capabilities that allow users to manage who and how they are called, block unwanted callers, hide call history for privacy, and set specific permissions for outgoing calls.
