The Henckels International line offers affordable cutlery from one of the world's most renowned knife manufacturers. Ideal for everyday use, this 17-Piece Set contains a 2-3/4-inch Paring Knife, 6-inch Utility Knife, 5-1/2-inch Boning Knife, 8-inch chef's knife, 8-inch Carving Knife, 8-inch bread knife, 7-inch Hollow Edge Santoku, 9-inch Sharpening Steel, eight 4-1/2-inch Steak Knives, and a black storage block. Formed of contoured, almost cushy santoprene, the handles are handsomely-backed with brushed Stainless Steel for added leverage and a sleek, contemporary look.
Fine Edge Synergy knives are constructed of stamped German stainless steel with hand-honed blades that can be resharpened (unlike the company's Everedge knives that have identical handles but micro-serrated edges). The molded handles are quite comfortable and resist breakage, and full-tang blades slice and chop with ease. Made in China, the cutlery is dishwasher-safe yet best washed and dried by hand. A lifetime warranty applies.

"great purchase for the price"

i just got this set for my new apartment, and overall, i'm really happy with it. the knives are very sharp, ergonomically well designed, and look pretty on the counter. that being said, you should know that this set is not one of the higher quality henckels sets - a fact betrayed by the price. they are very light and somewhat delicate, so a bit difficult to weild with control, and poorly suited to cutting through tougher material such as bones. of course, some may find light knives convenient, but i would have preferred heavier blades and handles, especially on the bigger knives. the Santoku Knife was the most disappointing because it was thin and very light. the rest are fine as they are, and cut with great precision, especially given the price. there are a few of extra slots in the block, which, while strange, came in handy for my old homeless knives. also, the set pretty muuch covers the range of needs and preferences for cutting absolutely anything (except bone-in chicken/fish, since the knives are a bit delicate). if you're not looking for a lifetime keeper set, then this is a great set for you. i really love mine, and plan on keeping it until i can splurge on a $$$$ set.

I am having trouble deciding on the knives I want to get. I was leaning towards Henckels synergy or everedge. However, I was a little turned off by some of the reviews I've read. Henckels are great knives, but apparently their lower end knives are really low end. So, I should start considering different brands. Does anyone have any suggestions? Could you please list some pros and cons with your suggestions? Thanks
my personal favourite is the wusthof dreizack Knife Set, makes me feel like the knife is doing all the work
