My steam iron fried my electrical outlet when I plugged it in. Do I need to buy a new one?

I plugged in my steam iron, and smoke immediately came out of the electrical outlet. I pulled it out, thinking that the outlet was the problem, plugged it into another one, and the same thing happened. What does it mean when an electrical device does this? Can it be fixed?

Your iron has a short in it . Toss it and get a new one. Get your outlets checked by an expert before using again.
