Looking to buy one or two quality kitchen cutlery sets? Then you’re taking the right first step – research! Knives come in all shapes, sizes and materials and are used for different purposes, which is why you need a set, and not just a single knife.
The following are the knives you’ll need:
Chef’s Knife
The Chef’s, or Cook’s, Knife is used for tough tasks like chopping and dicing when preparing food. It ranges between 6 and 12 inches in length. You’ll find that the blade is curved, which will help you perform tasks on the cutting board. Consider this knife as your “mule” in that it does the difficult jobs. But, unfortunately for the Chef’s knife, it is best known as the knife that Michael Myers used in the movie Halloween.
The Bread Knife
I’m sure you already know the Bread Knife’s life purpose in any of the good kitchen cutlery sets. Correct! To slice bread. It’s 8 inches long.
The Paring Knife
The Paring Knife, while small in stature, is big in use as it’s the favorite for peeling, coring and other exact work. It averages 3 inches in length.
The Utility Knife
At around 6 inches, on average, in length, the Utility Knife is somewhat of the kitchen cutlery sets' “step child”. It has no specialty but is often used for random tasks.
The Steak Knife
The Steak Knife is used to cut the meat at meal time. Thus it’s looked fondly upon as it literally works to put food on the plates of hungry family members.
The Cleaver
Don’t be afraid of the Cleaver. It only looks scary! It’s used for chopping and is durable enough to cut through bone, when necessary.
The Boning Knife
As you may have guessed, or known, you’d use a Boning Knife to remove bones from cuts of meat. At around six inches in length, the Boning Knife snakes its way in between the meat and the bone and literally “pops” out from the meat. While the Cleaver can cut through bone, the Boning Knife is a little more elegant – it “flips” the bone from the meat.
The Fillet Knife
A Fillet Knife is a longer version of the boning knife, about 10 inches, used to, you guessed it, fillet fish.

Life minimizing...again...linens question this time...?
We're still paring down the house/possessions, and I have one more question (or rather, set of questions) about our bathroom and kitchen situation.
For 2 adult people, how many of these things do we need?
Towels
Washcloths
Hand towels
Plates
Cups
Bowls
Sets of sheets (only one bed)
Pillow Cases
Bedspreads
We have entirely too much stuff, and I am trying to distill down to the number of these things is it necessary to have to live comfortably, but not have too many.
We totally have too many...
If it matters, I do laundry once or twice a week,depending on how much there is. I am usually on top of it.
These are what i would think would be best! with your washing habits
Towels - 5-6 1 for the floor wash weekly.. and two each for the week wash weekly
Washcloths - 1 a week is good but it never hurts to have a few extra for guest. so maybe 3
Hand towels - change them daily 5-7 wash weekly!
DISH TOWELS - Change them daily 5-7 Wash weekly!
Plates - normally if you don't have house parties 4 for all dishwear is fine! wash daily tho! if you have guest over for dinner i would keep anywhere between 6-8
Cups- always need more cups! i say 4 tall glasses 4 coffee cups - 4 smaller glasses more if you entertain a lot!
Bowls - I would stick with the same as plates!
Sets of sheets (only one bed) - change weekly 2-3 mix up colors and moods prior to bed if you count that or just get
Pillow Cases same as sets of sheets
Bedspreads - one maybe two depending on decorations!
that's what i suggest keep in mind i'm a pack rat! so if you ask my personal opinion i say keep at least 10 of everything but that's not the point here is it!
but really if you wash a lot 1 item per person!
but if you entertain and have house guest you will need a few extra! I use two towels when i shower but those two towels will last me a good week! I keep one on the floor for my feet and to keep the floor dry. and one for my hair ( it's really long) and one for my body and i switch them up to lessen the washing of them! so the one on the floor get's washed and i move the one that dried my hair to the floor for a week! and use the one on my body for my hair the next week! crazy but it works so i only need 3 towels for my self
but i don't use wash clothes i use other items!
