Sound like the Proms, started by Sir Henry Wood in 1895. Most are held in The Royal Albert Hall, but some are not. They Culminate in the Last Night of the Proms each year which is celebrated at the Royal Albert Hall and in Parks (usually one in each country of the UK - England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland).
It is broadcast live on the BBC (as the Proms are normally known as the BBC Proms) and usually happens in September on a Saturday night. It's full of Patriotic songs (Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia, Jerusalem) and the audience are encouraged to join in.
The last few songs are rarely changed, but were in 2001 in response to the World Trade Centre Attacks (with only Jerusalem retained that year)
