Remember that the more complicated the design of the cake, the more costly it will be. Usually, the color of the cake is white. But nowadays, you can choose any color that you want. It is good to match the cake to the color scheme of the wedding. Cake toppers also are a consideration for the design of the cake.
Since this is a wedding cake you will want to think about what it will taste like. Cakes are meant to be eaten as well as looked at, so try and make it delicious. You can choose to have a taste testing at a bakery. You can choose different flavors, anything that appeals to you. For example, chocolate, lemon, orange, carrot, and banana are good flavors. You can also have a cake that has different flavors in every layer. For between the layers you may have the choice of chocolate ganache or other flavored fillings. Once you have an idea of what kind of cake you want, you should go to see a baker. Make sure to choose a great baker for your wedding. Check their portfolio of works and see if you like the way that they bake cakes. Ask about their designs and if they accept custom designs, if you'd like one. Have a tasting so that you know what their cakes taste like aside from the look. Also, ask about any extra costs that you might need to pay, like the fee for the cake delivery and set-up.
If you've got your baker and the plans for the cake ready, all you need to do is pay and wait a couple of months for it to get ready. Soon enough, you'll have the dream wedding cake for your wonderful wedding.

How much marzipan will I need to cover an 11inch cake? Delia says, 700g is need to cover a 7 inch square cake!
Actually I found the answer myself... the answer would be 750g (which is actually 1.5 pounds) / 7" = 107g x 11" = 1178g which is approzimately 2lb & 6oz or 1KG & 175g.

I would say about 4 - 7 oz. marzipan packs, it is better to end up with more than less.

How to Make a Cake by Rob Thomas
If you are organizing a special occasion for yourself or for someone like a wedding, birthday party, an anniversary, a cake is normally the dessert of choice to commemorate the occasion. Cakes have been a part of numerous culture for for many years from as far back as the Vikings and the Roman Empire. Sure you can go out and order a cake from a bakery, which takes away from the joy of making it by yourself. A cake can be baked with various types of texture, from bread-like textures to some rich light cakes. Presently most of the appliances used for baking can be easily accessed in almost every household so even the most amateur cook can make a great cake. This piece will offer you with the step by step instructions on how to start making a plain cake.
Things you will need:
2 cups of sugar
1 cup of butter
3 cups of flour
4 eggs
1 tablespoon of vanilla
1 cup of milk
1 teaspoon of salt

Instructions are as follows:
1. Use the strainer to sieve the flour into a container and then measure the quantity you need for creating the cake.
2. Now put in the salt and baking powder and sieve the mixture again.
3. Put in the softened butter and mix it using either a spoon or a mixer it out until it becomes creamy. Then when this is done measure out the quantity of sugar and gradually begin to add to the batter.
4. Open all the eggs into a container to ensure that none of them are rotten. Once all of them are in and ready, begin to place in the eggs one by one and mix them well after each addition.
5. Add the milk with vanilla until the mixture comes together. While you are mixing, the mixture may appear to curdle but after continuous mixing, when adding the dry products, it will come together.
6. Now turn the oven to 350 degrees F and give it time to heat up and apply butter to oil the bottoms of the cake tins.
7. When the mixture finally becomes consistent, then fold in the flour mixture and pour into the baking tins. Create a dip in the center of the mixture so that it does not rise when baking.
8. Bake the cakes in the oven for 30 minutes but refrain from pulling the oven during the first 15 minutes.
Tips and Warnings
* You can use a cross section of baking containers to achieve various shape of cakes. Some persons prefer to create round cakes, square cakes, heart shapes and others.
* If you are arranging a wedding, birthday or anniversary you can create your own icing and apply it to decorate your cake, using design and even display phrases to whoever the cake is made for.
