Your Puppy and Table Scraps
Most veterinarians I have talked to agree that it’s ok to give your pet a very small portion of table food as long as they; A.) are low in fat, B.) are low in sugar, C.) are not bones.
Bones; (such as ribs and steak bones) tend to become dry and brittle when cooked, which can cause them to splinter. Chicken, and other fowl bones, are hollow – which make them great for flight – but can cause them to splinter if eaten.
Never give you pet candy, spicy food, or fat trimmed off your steak – if so, you are just asking for trouble, and your pet will pay the price. Instead, offer him small bits of vegetables, lean chicken, or other lean meats.
If you do decide to feed your pet from the dinner table, make sure that it is a treat, and like all treats it should not comprise more than 10% of your dog’s total diet.
Lastly, it is important to keep in mind that feeding your pet from the table can cause undesirable behavior such as begging – which includes whining and barking, and can encourage steeling of food from the table unattended. I once had a Saint Bernard that ate our entire Sunday Dinner roast in a matter of a few seconds when my back was turned.
I often warn people with small children to never let their kids feed the dog from their hand. Once this practice is started it can be very difficult for your dog to understand the difference from food that your child is offering, from your child’s lunch of a peanut butter sandwich.

What are the pro's and con's of giving my dog table food because I want to know if i could give my pitbull mix pieces of chicken and steak and other types of meat from time to time.
Yes, you can. Prepare certain veggies for her. Or boil some chicken in chicken soup. *my dog loves that* But prepare it for her in her bowl. Don't just give it to her from your plate because she will beg for food that way.
Don;t give her fatty steak though.
