How to Make Dried Apple Rings for A Fall Treat

Of course, it is possible to purchase dried apple rings within the grocery shop but I don't believe they really taste like apples. Too much processing and not enough apple for me. If you make dried apples at home you know that they are pure apple and they taste that way too! No preservatives or added sugar, just tart tasty apple.

Why make dried apple rings or pieces in the first place? Apples are obtainable all year long within the grocery store and why not have fresh? If you're concerned about consuming locally and not eating food that has traveled halfway across the world to get to your grocery retailer, it makes sense to harvest meals when its in season and offered refreshing locally.

Fall is apple season where I live and going to a regional orchard to either pick our own or to purchase a box of apples is an enjoyable family outing. The smell and taste of fresh picked apples just doesn't compare to the grocery. If there isn't a nearby orchard, I bet there's  a farmers market nearby in which you may stock up on neighborhood fruit and vegetables.

Its simple to make your own dried apple rings or pieces to keep in your pantry for snacks or an addition to your morning oatmeal if you've got a food dehydrator. I like making use of a food dehydrator because it works without having me having to do anything to it after I turn it on. A set and forget operation! You can use your oven too, but without having a fan it takes longer and ties up your oven at the same time as it heats up your kitchen.

Preparing your apples is the most time consuming part of the operation. You may do it by hand or use a handle-crank apple/potato peeler that sits on the counter. They are inexpensive and work wonderful, peeling/slicing/coring all in one go. I do not generally peel my apples but that's a personal option.

Whatever way you select to do it, core and slice your apples in as uniform pieces as it is possible to. The thinner they may be the quicker they'll dry. Cut out any bruised or poor spots as you go. Place the apple rings on the dehydrator trays or oven racks and set the temp to about 140 degrees. If you're using a dehydrator with a fan check back in about 8 hours to see how they're doing. The apple slices will be dry when they have a leathery consistency. Be confident they are totally dry before you package them so no mold can grow and contaminate your whole batch.

So simple! Whenever you make dried apple rings or slices at home, you realize that there are no additives in them just pure apple to be used as a snack or an addition to your morning oatmeal!

i need some concepts/goals for a cooking projecet that have in the catagory of Science.?

I am going to be making applesauce with 3-6 year olds and I need to come up with two concepts /goal for the children to learn during the making of the applesauce. They will be cooking with me from star to finih. they will se the apple as a whole apple and cut it on a peeler then chop i and cook it. All with supervision of course. PLEASE help me come up with two goal for the children during this project for my lesson plan...THE CHILDREN WILL ______BY __________
It needs to be broad then after the BY it needs to be more the specific? ?
I hope this makes sense to somebody cause it didn't to me???
The assingment is done its just the goals for it being a science activity?? Suggestions please.. I see the children seeing the change from the apple to applesauce by ????

It means, what do you hope that the children will learn from this experience? Cooking is always a great way to introduce heaps of new concepts to children. For example, will you cut the apple? Into half? Then into quarters? They are beginning to understand basic maths concepts (fractions). Do they have to add a certain amount of water? That's introducing volume and measurement. This also exposes them to new vocabulary - half, quarter, volume, millilitres, litres, etc. There are heaps of ways children can learn from this. Think about following a set recipe, taking turns to add ingredients, seeing a raw product change into a new product.
I dont want to do your assignment for you, but those are a few ideas to get you started. I know it's hard to understand what format to put it in but trust me, once you do it a few times, it gets easier.
